| In the 1940s and �50s, LBJ (Majority leader in the Senate) and Sam Rayburn (Speaker of the House) were the two most powerful men in American politics. Many dinners in Booth # 24 involved LBJ and Speaker Rayburn deciding the passage or defeat of upcoming bills.
